The beauty of t-shirts like these ones from StylinOnline is that you actually can pair them with a LOT of different pieces to create entirely different looks. Unfortunately I keep seeing the same one. Pairing your fave superhero tee with those same boring everyday jeans just doesn't do your hero justice. Don't just wear your adorable tees, rock them. Try it tucked into a cute skirt, or of course you can still opt for jeans but add some polish to the look with a blazer. After all, you're not just any kind of geek, you're a chic geek. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big supporter of all things geek when it comes to fashion choices. But I've seen an alarming increase in people wearing superhero tees in a not so super way. I blame The Big Bang Theory (looking at you, Sheldon Cooper) for bringing this look to the mainstream. Catwoman lives in stilettos. Not only that, but she manages to do acrobatics and dramatic exits out of third floor windows without even twisting an ankle. And she's only one of many women in the DC Universe to do the incredible in some not-to-be-overlooked footwear. (Wonder Woman doesn't count. She can fly, it's hardly an accomplishment to get things done in those boots.) Footwear is as important to the chic geek as it is to the super heroines she admires. But the heels don't necessarily make the hero. It's alright if you are more comfortable in flats, any kind of statement shoes are the perfect platform to declare your love of style and comics all at the same time. In fact, if Catwoman can do anything in her signature shoes, you should be able to too! My shoeperhero is this pair of custom paper mache heels. Made entirely of Steve Madden pumps, Batgirl and Catwoman comics, and a healthy amount of mod podge (If you love this look, find your own custom pair on Etsy. I love MadeinBoston). While this casual everyday outfit might not be ideal for catching people stealing diamonds, you'll catch them stealing second glances. The key is to keep the rest of the outfit fairly simple, add an unexpected kick of chic geek and let the compliments roll in. So go on, find your sole mate. Find the shoes that speak to your inner Supergirl and get ready to take on the universe in your own fashion. |
Rochelle BInstead of fairy tales, my dad read me Batman comics as a kid. My mom preferred to dress me up as a princess. This chic-geek combo is the result. Archives
