Imagine my surprise and delight when this Valentines Day (yes, I'm that behind on my postings) I got the absolute coolest gift EVERRRRR!!!!!
I was quite excited (as you can likely tell) to receive the 50th anniversary Batgirl colouring book from the most amazing boyfriend ever! He totally gets me. Flowers and chocolates are for schmucks. Batgirl is forever. Anyway, this gift in particular is awesome for so many reasons! Not least of which being, getting to see, relive and colour every phase of Batgirl. From her first appearance in 1967 (No, not 1961. Betty Kane does NOT even count) to the ultra modern Batgirl of Burnside, and even into the Rebirth Batgirl, following her evolution is a delight regardless of how trivial and silly the medium may be. Another reason I found this to be so cool is because I really got to feel like I was part of the experience. I suddenly understood how colourists for actual comic books feel. It's quite the experience to be able to breathe life into one of your favourite characters, build up favourite scenes or images, to watch black and white outlines come to life, to set a mood, create a platform and define something so surreal.
Yeah maybe I'm getting really poetic about this. Maybe I'm a bit over the top. Maybe I'm building it up to be a lot more than most people would think it should be. This is just how I see it and why it means so much to you.
You can check out what I've done so far in the slideshow below. Please keep an eye out on my Instagram, because they are all going to be up there. Also, you can get yours here, and colour along!
