Sorry I only got around to one post last week (Still looking for that new mug, because I know you were all dying to know how that story progressed). But even once a week is a significant improvement from my year long silences so whatever. It was a crazy busy week. I'm talking about weddings, tournaments, baby news (not mine, my cousin's), house hunting, soul searching and other various disturbances in my already chaotic life. I'll also be back in New York for two days this week too, but I'm still going to try and get a second post in at some point.
Today's post is about a random find I came across in the most unexpected of places, while looking for something else entirely, and my plans to bring it to its full potential. So here's the story, I was at Closeout King (for those of you who are unfamiliar with this store, they are a giant closeout liquidator. They buy up warehouses full of product from companies that are going under and then sell it for these absurdly low prices.) Usually the stuff they do have is less than appealing, but every once in a while you find a gem.
I am by no means a thrifter type. Not because I have anything against it, I feel like I just don't have the eye, or the patience for it. I have a hard time visualising a specific piece looking like part of a cool outfit, when its surrounded by old, worn, and sometimes just downright weird merchandise. I guess I place a lot of importance on visual merchandising. Also, going through racks and racks of clothes only in hopes of finding something cool AND praying it's in your size...ugh. the thought of it just makes me want to give up before I've even started. Patience has never been a strength of mine.
Anyway, I was at Closeout King, looking for a waffle iron (random, I know), when I came across this oddly shapen, unflattering, pop art sweater dress with an odd sheer ruffley...thing, at the bottom of it. I stared at it, torn, for a good couple minutes. This thing was straight up ugly. But I really liked the fun graphic print. I stared some more, and I pondered. I could take that odd ruffle out completely, that'd only take a second. Just a stitch or two at the waist would make the fit a bit more flattering. I think this dress has the potential to be really cool. Also, it only cost $2.00 so even if I can't transform it into something cool, or even wearable for that matter, it's not exactly a huge loss. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out! My only remaining concern is the loud colours. Usually not ones that look particularly good on me but we will see how that goes.
Let me know what you think! Is this dress still salvageable, or should I have just let it go? Have you found any real worthwhile finds at an unexpected place? Tell me about it!
